This methods course provides students with valuable, practical experience in using a range of qualitative methods for analysing text, talk and social interaction.

There is one coursebook for this course.

  • Wodak, Ruth & Krzyzanowski, Michal, Eds. (2008). Qualitative Discourse Analysis in the Social Sciences. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan.


Recommended textbooks include:

  • Silverman, David (2006). Interpreting Qualitative Data: Methods for Analysing Talk, Text and Interaction (3rd edition). London: Sage.
  • Have, Paul ten (2007). Doing Conversation Analysis: A Practical Guide (2nd edition). London: Sage.
  • Wray, Alison & Bloomer, Aileen (2006). Projects in Linguistics: A Practical Guide to Researching Language (2nd edition). London: Hodder Arnold.

            

They can all be purchased at the university bookshop on campus (of course, you can buy them online).

Students from other programmes are welcome to attend.
